Muzzleloader Deer Hunt
New Mexico youth-only hunts allow hunters under 18 years old to hunt elk, deer, and antelope. A Youth Hunter Education Course is required for all youths under the age of 18 prior to hunting with a firearm, purchasing or applying for a firearms hunting license. Bowhunter Education is not mandatory, but is highly recommend. Elk hunts are the first hunt and occur during the peak of the rut. The mule deer hunts run into the rut.
