In 2009 I was fortunate to hunt with Trophy Ridge Outfitters for trophy mule deer. I had booked with four other hunters. After 47 years of hunting over a good portion of the world, I was use to some pretty tough hunting camps, but not so with this hunt. Our base camp was The Sky Ute Casino Resort! It is a great facility with good food and great rooms .The night we drove in I met my guide.We spoke about what the ideal deer would be for us, and I really wanted to harvest a deer with a spread of over 30 inches. As I described my once in a life time buck a big smile came over my guides face, I would find out why the next morning. The next morning, opening morning, I was staring at a buck through my rifle scope, well over 30 inches. I shot a buck that was over 37 inches outer spread and scored over 197. My guide had set on that buck for over a week pattering the every move of that deer. I can’t say enough good things about Trophy Ridge Outfitters and their entire staff!!!

My experience with trophy ridge outfitters last fall was amazing. I got to camp met audrey and roger for the first time.The are very nice people. Camp was full, and hope’s were high. I was hunting with my brother and another buddy. We all had an opportunity. The guide’s worked hard to get us settled in our camp and keep us in the hunt. I have learned over the years its easier to stay focused and hunt harder with proper food and water, not a problem here. From the first day to the last we were always on hot elk sign. Actually my first day I almost had an opportunity at a 350 type bull, but a rising morning thermal ended that quickly. Rain had moved in and out for the next two days, one guy getting a shot at a bull of a lifetime. The third day and just happened to be my 30th birthday I got my opportunity and made good on it. I took home a very nice 350 bull. my guide worked hard for me the whole hunt and I will be back. Ive had the opportunity to hunt with a few outfits and these guys are professionals.

My two sons hit the lottery last year and both drew non-resident tags for the youth elk hunt. We had never been out West or even seen an elk before. We had no idea of what to expect and Audrey held our hand through the whole process. When we got to camp, Roger said get in the truck and he’d show us some elk. We had no idea that just down the road, were bull elk bigger than we could have ever imagined. Back at the lodge, we met the guides, had supper and fellowship. It was like we’d all been friends for years. Opening morning found the bulls bugling like crazy. How can you explain that feeling? You can’t, you HAVE to experience it! The boys were disappointed that they only missed a couple of days of school….because they both took trophy bulls on opening day! The biggest compliment I can think of to pay an outfitter is to go back to hunt with them year after year. This coming year will be my 6th year and 8th hunt. Success was achieved in all of the hunts, but the most extraordinary fact to me, is that I shot elk 4 out of 5 years and each time I had a different guide, I would encourage anyone who is planning a hunt to hire TRO, and if you have any doubts please call me.

Every aspect of the hunt was first class. Accommodations at the lodge, meals, Guides and game prep were all excellent. Hunting with Trophy Ridge Outfitters was a pleasure. Growing up in Pennsylvania and hunting for Whitetails with my Dad, we always talked about going on a Big Game Hunt out West. Trophy Ridge gave the option of allowing the hunter to bring along an observer at a reduced rate. So, having the ability to take a 6×6 Bull Elk on the first morning of my hunt with my Dad and the observer by my side made the trip even more memorable. The remainder of our time at camp was spent hunting black bear. Our guide was top notch and knew where, how, and when to put us on to the elk. The accommodations and meals were very nice. Everyone at camp was friendly and respectful creating a nice family atmosphere. Both my Dad and I couldn’t have asked for a better hunting trip. It will in our memories forever.
